Saint Pius V was born near Alessandria in Italy in 1504. He entered the Dominican Order and taught theology. After being ordained a bishop and named cardinal, he became pope in 1566. He vigorously implemented the reform of the Church begun at the Council of Trent, promoted the spread of the faith and renewed divine worship. He died on May 1, 1572.
We have to cherish and nurture the treasures that the Holy Mother Church held in her hands for centuries passed. Treasures that can obtain heaven for us. One of this is the Tridentine Mass and other ancient rites that tangibly shows the magnificence of the Holy Church.
Father, you chose Saint Pius V as pope of Your Church to protect the faith and give you more fitting worship. By his prayers, help us to celebrate Your holy mysteries with a living faith and an effective love. We ask through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
